FTM boyfriends (me on the left, osolibre on the right) getting rowdy and sassy in diva femme drag before going to a M.E.N. concert in a big red barn. I have a queen persona named “The Spirit of ‘76”, which involves wearing only that star-spangled vest with incredible knee-length fringe, booty shorts, and the highest platform heels I can find. Disco and revolution, yeehaw!
The bond of brotherhood that I have with him is deepened and strengthened by the fact that we both spent time as loud & proud queer femmes when we were female-identified. We both struggled with our transmasculinity, wrestled with the false dichotomies which suggested we were “giving up” or “rejecting” what we were so proud to embody as female people, as feminists! We talk about how nothing has been lost, here…we have the same queer hearts and strong love for our chosen family and deep solidarity with the struggles of all people. As I accepted myself as a trans man, I gained mental health, serenity, a chance to finally be comfortable in my own skin.
What a gift, to have the privilege of embodying fluidity, of listening to myself and summoning more bravery than I ever thought possible. When we femme up, we are not regressing. We know ourselves! We are working to explode the gender binary by intentionally revealing those diva goddesses we have the immense joy of knowing on an intimate level.

true love,
and a commitment to outrageous femme faggotry.

And that’s how you destroy the binary.

As a gay and lesbian movement, we are portrayed as depoliticized, harmless homosexuals who want the American dream of a fucking white picket fence and a white baby (maybe an…

An eighth grader in the Houston area, Asher Brown, has committed suicide after being relentlessly bullied at school for being gay.
A US college student committed suicide the day after authorities say two fellow students surreptitiously recorded him having sex with a man in his dorm room and broadcast it over the internet. Tyler Clementi of New Jersey jumped off the George Washington Bridge, a lawyer for his family said. His body hasn’t been recovered.
Seth, a student at Jacobsen Middle School in Tehachapi, Calif., was found unconscious and not breathing on Sept. 19 after he apparently tried to hang himself from a tree in his backyard, according to a police report obtained by The Bakersfield Californian. Friends said that Seth had been picked on for years because he was gay. He later passed away.
This has to stop.

Butches! Femmes! YOU MUST WATCH THIS! I haven’t heard this piece before and I have to say I have not had a piece break me open like this in a long time.  Oh Ivan E Coyote thank you so so so much for this!  I am in tears for the witnessing.

fuckyeahfemmes:

I like this piece much more when I hear Ivan Coyote read it out loud! What a butch dreamboat, and the accent just melts my Canadian heart!

Oh! This makes me want to up my femme level considerably. So full of love.

I came across this post while browsing, and it is incredibly tragic and horrifying. (Trigger warning for transphobia and ablism.)

This is a tragic example of how severely our legal systems are still failing trans and queer people. Everyone should give this a read

Somehow losing by this tiny margin is brutalizing. And because this is a vote on my dignity as a human being, it is hard not to take it personally or emotionally. But I also know that the history of civil rights movements has many steps backward as forward, and some of those reversals actually catalyze the convictions that lead to victories. A decade ago, the marriage issue was toxic. Now it divides evenly. Soon, it will win everywhere. I know for many younger gays and lesbians, this process can seem bewildering and hurtful. But I’m old enough now to be able to look back and see the hill we have climbed in such a short amount of time, and the minds and hearts we have changed. Including our own. Know hope.
