When I come to terms, to terms with this
My world will change for me
This isn’t my favorite Tori song. In fact, it probably wouldn’t even be in my top 25. It’s been years since I’ve heard it, and like most of her newer music, it doesn’t display one quarter of the emotion and talent that she’s capable of.
I haven’t moved since the call came
Since the call came I haven’t moved
I stare at the wall, knowing on the other side
the storm that waits for me
But yesterday I sat down at my keyboard, and the chord progression for this song just came out of me, completely unintentional. I’ve never played it before, didn’t know the chords, and haven’t heard the song recently. It was like a cell memory had suddenly woken up in my fingers.
For a sea view I have no need
I have my little pleasures
This wall being one of these
As both Tori and Ani songs tend to be (for me, anyway), this song has revisited me at a time when I can really connect to it. Like the Victorian woman whose perspective she is singing from, I’m repetitive and uneasy, stubbornly trying to will away the inevitable changes and decisions that I know (hope?) I’ll have to make soon. But I’m far from Victorian, and I don’t even own a parasol.
If I’m the Seated Woman with a Parasol
I will be safe in my frame
Like I said, it’s not an incredible song, and I wouldn’t use it to introduce anyone to Tori. But there is a little part of me vacationing there, at least for now.
Poor Kanye. He probably dedicated so much time and energy to making his “Monster” video as outrageous and gruesome as he could… only to be outdone by a puppet-driven remix.
Janelle Monae feat. Big Boi, Tightrope
OK, I hadn’t really given Janelle Monae a fair shot up until now, but I’m all aboard finally. What can I say? You put Big Boi on a track, and I’m going to stop and listen to it. She’s just so darn cute. Her little smile when she’s dancing around is just infectious as all get out.
This video popped up in five different places for me before I actually clicked on it, but turns out to be the most joyful music video of the year so far. Monae has talent and style to burn, and watching her I began to get very nervous for Alicia Keys. This is what a hungry young artist looks like, when everything remains uncertain and she can’t afford to coast.
^ What they said.
French artist Céleste Boursier-Mougenot’s installation takes the form of a walk-though aviary for a flock of zebra finches, furnished with electric guitars and other musical instruments. As the birds go about their routine activities, perching on or feeding from the various pieces of equipment, they create a random and captivating soundscape. (via)
So people are now using YouTube to crowdsource choirs. Nearly 200 people sitting in front of their computers singing, their voices stitched together into one. And it’s gorgeous.
I wish I could show this to every person who’s said the Internet is only good for porn and alienating us from each other.

WHAT where is this.
Dear LZ. I think this is called ‘Heaven’. If not, its got to be pretty close.

Pete Yorn, “Rock Crowd.” Skip to 1:10 for the song. Definitely makes me wish I was exhausted and coming home from a concert, as opposed to facing papers and readings ;o(
