The Aeolian Shawl I recently finished knitting as a wedding present for a friend. I started it way back in August, put it down for most of the fall, then knit on it for about six weeks straight during my winter break. It’s my first lace shawl (and my first knitting project with beads!) and I have to say, I’m pretty damn proud.
Sigh. Back to grad school, now.
Y’all. I finally cast off the super big secret knitting project I started way back in August 2009. I mostly put it aside during the fall, then spent the last 6 weeks working my ass off on it. Still needs to be blocked, but oh my God, I can have my life back. (Well, aside from this whole grad school thing.)
Also? I will never knit with cobwebby lace yarn again (I’m looking at you Baruffa Cashwool). I’m sticking with heavy laceweight to fingering weight from here on out, thank you very much.
This photograph by Belgian-born, Australia-based Magdalena Bors (1976-) conveys a magical sense I associate with knitting. Though many think of this activity as a lame, housewife-like way of killing time, I´m convinced it involves some magic.
Other photographic works by Bors can be seen in her website.
Baby socks are the most adorable item a person could ever knit. I may never stop knitting these again.
I finished my Noro shawl! Until I photograph it, though, please enjoy a picture of my Butternut Scarf [Ravelry link], which I finished in July, but didn’t block until a week or two ago. The yarn is a very special treat: Handmaiden Swiss Mountain Cashmere and Silk in the Peridot colorway. True fact: when you touch it, you can heavenly choruses of angels singing.

Eep! I squealed in delight when I saw this.
Most recent picture of my Noro shawl, from a couple of days ago. I’ve already put a couple more inches on it; I’m almost through the light blue section you can see in that Noro ball, and the Lorna’s Laces ball is nearly gone. It’s been great for stress knitting, if only because it now takes me about 10-15 minutes to finish a row, so I’m forced to sit and relax for at least that long.
In other news, bad things seem to be coming in pairs lately: I’ve got two papers to write, two classes to co-facilitate, and I’ve been sick for almost two weeks now. Sheesh.
The Dragonfly Fibers, Noro, and Signature needles are all (early!) birthday presents. Really, all it takes is one kick-ass person to know your taste in gifts, and your birthday becomes instant awesome.
I just purchased these studs. Aren’t they charming?too cute! !
I just had such a knitting nerd girl moment. GASP. So… Pretty…
Eep! I’m coveting so hard right now.
